  • Jannik Sinner Wins Second Straight ATP Finals Title and Joins Federer and Djokovic in Elite Company

Jannik Sinner has added another milestone to his rapidly expanding legacy by defeating Carlos Alcaraz 7–6, 7–5 in the final match of the ATP season and successfully defending his ATP Finals title. The Italian capped off a phenomenal year by winning his tenth consecutive match at the event and becoming only the second player in history to claim back-to-back ATP Finals titles without losing a single set.

Sinner’s achievement places him in extremely exclusive company. Over the 56-year history of the year-end championship, only eight players had previously won consecutive ATP Finals titles — and every one of them is considered a tennis legend. The list includes Ilie Nastase, Björn Borg, Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, Lleyton Hewitt, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. By defending his crown in Turin, Sinner becomes the ninth name on this historic roster and one of the youngest to do so.

The scale of Sinner’s accomplishment becomes even more impressive when placed in historical context. Nastase dominated the early years of the tournament, winning three straight titles between 1971 and 1973. Borg captured back-to-back victories in 1979 and 1980 at Madison Square Garden. Lendl, one of the greatest indoor players ever, won five ATP Finals crowns and was the first to win two consecutive titles without losing a set — a record Sinner has now matched. McEnroe extended his peak into the mid-1980s with consecutive trophies, while Sampras set a new standard by winning five titles across two different cities. Hewitt famously claimed the championship on home soil in Sydney in 2001 and defended it the following year in Shanghai.

Federer took the level of dominance even higher by winning six ATP Finals titles across three different locations, while Djokovic eventually surpassed him with a record-setting seven titles. Djokovic was also the last player to defeat Sinner indoors prior to this season’s run. Since that loss, the Italian has won 19 matches in a row indoors, including a Davis Cup title, a Grand Slam trophy and now a historic second ATP Finals crown.

Sinner’s own journey at the year-end championship has been fast and remarkable. In the three seasons since first qualifying, he has reached three finals and won two titles — both without dropping a set. His tactical clarity, accelerated development and sustained consistency on indoor hard courts have made him nearly unbeatable in these conditions. With the 2025 victory, Sinner also surpasses Ilie Nastase as the most successful ATP Finals competitor in terms of match-winning percentage at this stage in his career.

His latest victory came in another tightly contested match against Carlos Alcaraz, a rivalry that has defined much of the ATP season. Both players pushed each other to extremes throughout the year, meeting in three consecutive Grand Slam finals and playing a dramatic Roland Garros showdown. The ATP Finals title match in Turin served as a fitting conclusion to their season. Sinner’s ability to elevate his level in pressure moments — from bold second serves to disciplined baseline changes — was key to securing the win.

Alcaraz, despite the defeat, also achieved a major milestone by securing the year-end world No. 1 ranking. The Spaniard will now shift his focus to the Davis Cup, while Sinner completes the season with a perfect run and a reinforced status as one of the sport’s premier champions.

With consecutive ATP Finals titles, an extended indoor winning streak, and victories across the biggest stages of the sport, Jannik Sinner closes 2025 not only as a dominant figure in men’s tennis but also as a player whose achievements now echo those of the greatest champions in history. As the tour moves into 2026, the Italian stands firmly among the elite, ready to add even more chapters to a career already marked by exceptional milestones.
